Why Work with a Registered Dietitian?

There’s a big difference between a nutritionist and a registered dietitian. Only a registered dietitian is accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is required to do continuing education. On the other hand, “nutritionist“ is a very broad term for a nutrition professional who may end up giving you harmful advice.

Just like our educated and experienced trainers, registered dietitians have the knowledge to help you reach your fitness goals. Their extra training prepares them to help you meet dietary restrictions and support your exercise regime for optimal results.

Registered dietitians count as healthcare professionals, unlike nutritionists. Family Food accepts all Philadelphia area insurances, so you can boost your personal training regimen at no extra cost and reap all the benefits of working simultaneously with trainers and dietitians.

With our integrated partnership, your trainer and your dietitian will work together to craft the perfect training and nutrition plan for you. When you have both professionals working together, you can supercharge your efforts and meet your goals in no time. As your trainer adapts your workouts, your dietitian will modify your nutrition needs so you can get the most out of your health journey.

We make it easy for you to combine your fitness goals with your overall health. You can meet with your dietitian right from our gym so you have one convenient and central location to take charge of your health.

Is Hiring a Dietician Worth It?

Working With a Registered Dietician Yields Results

The health journal Family Practice reported in a recent study that people who worked with a dietician lost 2.6 lbs in their controlled study, compared to 0.5 lbs of weight gain in the group of people who didn’t engage a dietician. When you work with a dietician, you will have follow-up visits, personally-tailored nutrition plans to use, and the accountability of having your results tracked by someone who cares.

Your Nutritionist Will Create a Unique Plan For You

What is your schedule like? What is your nutrition budget? What is your medical history, and what are your health goals? Such are the factors that a registered dietician will consider when creating your nutrition plan.

Only someone with an intensive nutrition education can tie nutrient research, your medical history, and your health goals together into a cohesive eating plan.

We encourage you to bring questions to your consultations, as well as information about medications you might be taking, your health history, and more. Our team of dieticians would be happy to speak with you about your concerns and goals, and every piece of information you can provide will help.

What Must a Dietician Accomplish Before Gaining Certification?

The state of Pennsylvania enforces above-average requirements for professional registered dieticians (RDs). Firstly, they need to earn a regionally accredited degree in a related nutrition or dietetics program. They must also complete the requirements set forth by ACEND, the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. Aspiring professionals also need CDR examination, but they are not even eligible for the exam until they have completed 1,200 hours of supervised practice.

In short, RDs are much more than nutritionists. They are scientists, researchers, educators, and coaches, and your lifestyle will change for the better when you invest time in a consultation.

It’s Not About Being Skinny – It’s About Health

Our registered dieticians can certainly advise you on how to lose weight, but they go one step further: they will teach you how to be healthy. For a professional dietician, it’s not about skipping meals or starving yourself.
